Village Markets
In Tuscan villages and small towns weekly markets are held. These markets are like roving shopping malls, serving villages that are too small to support retail shops. Therefore they carry household basics, seasonal produce and products as well as the unique delectables like seasonal fresh vegetables and fruits, roasted porchetta, cheeses, oven-baked olives, fresh fish…. They are actually special-built trucks that line up like a wagon-train, open side flaps, pull out display carts, assemble sunshades and umbrella-like roofs. Everything from coffee pots to lingerie with roasted ducks and garden plants and flowers in between. Leather clothing, onion sets… everything by the season. These are not designer goods, but tablecloths, yardage and dish drainers. Fun to wander the stalls, buy a bit of this and that for your next meal. Or buy spiedini or sliced porchetta, a fresh bread roll and a roll of paper towels, find your way to a bench in the park and enjoy!! A * notes a larger market. Some are very small, 4 to 5 vans and just the basics.
